Jesse has played sports all his life. Starting with baseball at the age of five, he went on to compete in basketball, football and curling through high school. Yet, he still considers himself an outlier when it came to the shooting sports.
At age 21, he purchased his now favorite pistol, a Ruger 22/45. From there, he started looking into competitions where he could use it. With some searching, he found the nearby Colfax Sportsmen’s Club. Luckily, they hosted more Steel Challenge matches than any other club in Jesse’s home state of Wisconsin.
“I started off wanting to shoot Rimfire Challenge, so I also picked up a Ruger 10/22 and wandered into the range for one of their Thursday night Steel Challenge matches,” says Misco. “That was the beginning of my shooting career.”
Since then, Jesse has gone on to obtain the rank of Grand Master in Rimfire Rifle Open in under a year from his first Steel Challenge match. A month later, he would go on to obtain Grand Master in Rimfire Pistol Open and Pistol Caliber Carbine Open. Not only did he reach Grand Master in PCCO, but fifteen months after his first match, he broke into the top 20 competitors nationally and now sits at 10th.
“These last couple of years have truly been life-changing. Only a year ago I was a C class shooter with your basic Rugers. Now, I proudly shoot for Team JP Rifles, direct my own Steel Challenge matches, and I am ranked in the top 10 in the nation. I cannot wait to see what these next few years bring, and how much more I can accomplish.”
Jesse is set to graduate soon from the University of Wisconsin – Stout with a degree in Computer Networking and Information Technology and a minor in Project Management and Information Security Management. He has officially taken on the role of Match Director of Steel Challenge at the Colfax Sportsmen’s Club and considers it a great opportunity to not only support the club but to gain experience in managing large events.
