Dave’s father bought him his first .22 rifle while on a business trip when Dave was nine years old. From that point, he was obsessed with firearms and shooting. While in high school, he worked for a local gun range where he was first introduced to Skeet and Trap shooting. This produced a competitive spirit for shooting sports that has lasted ever since.
In 2002, Dave decided to try competitive pistol shooting at a local IDPA club where he met a group of lifelong friends that he still shoots with weekly. He won the ESP/SS title at the IDPA nationals in 2003 and started looking for the next adventure. USPSA took his attention for several years, and he accumulated a nice collection of trophies for his efforts. When he was finally introduced into 3-Gun, he knew he had found his place.
“JP is the only rifle I will use in a competition,” Dave says. He used them to win gold medals in the Texas Police Olympics for several years. He shoots many major matches throughout the country, and his JP SCR-11 is the only rifle with me during these events. “I’ve hit targets at 625 yards using 55gr. bullets with this rifle. I am a big believer in buying the best equipment available, so you can never blame your gear for match shortcomings.”
Dave recently retired after 32 years of service in Law Enforcement, starting a new career in the firearms industry. This leaves him the time to compete nationally while also working with guns every day, just like nine-year-old Dave would have wanted.
